In recent years, ADS Ltd has provided boats and crew for a number of scientific surveys. Working for Marine Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage, these surveys have taken us to a huge variety of locations; Islay and Jura, the Small Isles, Raasay and Rona, the Summer Isles, Arran, the Orkney Islands and the Shetland Islands.
These have lately involved the deployment of underwater camera systems at predetermined locations to monitor Priority Marine Features such as mearl beds and flameshell beds.
We are ideally suited to scientific work as our boats are purposely set up for raising / lowering camera systems and our divers have extensive knowledge of marine species.
We also offer an all-inclusive scientific diving service; as well as a fully coded boat we can provide an HSE approved dive team.
Our divers are hugely passionate about marine life and conservation, being enthusiastic recreational divers outside of work. We have recently discovered and recorded several new flameshell beds, as well as a small number of the extremely rare fan mussel Atrina Fragilis.
“As part of an excercise with the Scottish Government,we were responsible for a number of drop-down video surveys around Scotland. We worked closely with ADS for over a year. At all times, skipper and crew were helpful, passionate, professional and accommodating. Working at sea can be challenging, being able to sit down with the ADS team and plan the day, utilising their experience and local knowledge proved invaluable. Their flexibility, dedication and professionalism ensured surveys were completed safely to a high standard” Guy Pasco, Seascope Fisheries Research Ltd
